What a wonderful world of learning second grade is! The skills learned in the earlier grades are expanded and studied in more depth. The goal is for reading to truly become a pleasure......there is nothing more rewarding for a teacher than to see students smiling, laughing and totally "into" the book he/she is reading. Paragraph writing is a writing skill that is practiced throughout the year. Creative stories are shared among peers.

The second grade math skills revolve around mastery of the addition/subtraction facts to 18. Time, money, and measurement are also reinforced.

Some science units explored are weather, living-nonliving things, and the solar system. In social studies, the community is the main focus.
