Mrs. Joan Boniello

Welcome to My Classroom

This class focuses upon Reading, Language Arts, and Math. Reading Instruction is that of a multisensory approach. This approach makes associations between phonemes (auditory) graphic symbols(visual) and the motor patterns for writing these symbols (kinesthetic). This approach incorporates phonics, reading, handwriting, and spelling into one subject which is Written Language. Throughout the year students will be reading, retelling, writing, and participating in paired reading at their appropriate skill level . Math instruction is modified grade level. Throughout the year we will explore various strategies to help ensure that each student experience success.

Please check the website on a regular basis to view the skills that your child will be working upon as well as other important information concerning upcoming projects in this class.

For information on projects and assignments in subjects not taught in this class, please refer to that teacher's web page.

READ WITH YOUR CHILD EVERY DAY!

Philosophy of Education:

  • Laughter is the fastest way to join two people together and by entertaining the student it will help to bridge the gap between student and teacher.
  • All children can learn and should be given every opportunity to learn.
  • Being a professional, one should be sensitive to each and every child's educational, social, and economic need.
  • For the young child, one must remember that play is a child's work, and that they learn through play.
  • Children learn to read by reading and write by writing.
  • Children should be active participants in the learning process.
  • Children's individual learning styles should be addressed in every unit of instruction.
  • The role of the teacher is to act as a facilitator and be involved with student's learning.
  • Children's responses to text are encouraged.
  • Classrooms are very busy workshops filled with literacy, hands on tools , experiments, discoveries, and interaction between teachers and children.

Assessment is both formal and informal. It should analyze using real books, provide natural experiences and is aimed at carefully analyzing overall student growth.
