The Moonachie School District, for years, has been at the forefront in public education. Our commitment to maximum teaching and learning continues. Together, we will maintain our objective as a true learning organization, where students achieve at high levels in the traditional basics‚reading, writing, math, science, and citizenship and in the new basics of problem-solving, teamwork, and communication.
Although there will be many challenges this year, The Moonachie Board of Education is committed to serving you, our students and the community. The past has been wonderful, the present is immensely exciting, but most significant of all is the promise of the future. We invite you to join us in our efforts to provide the children of Moonachie with an education of which we can all be proud.
Roberts Rules of Order, Newly Revised, governs the Moonachie Board of Education in its deliberations and acts in all cases in which it is not inconsistent with statutes of the State of New Jersey, rules of the State Board of Education, or these bylaws.
The President presides at all meetings of the Board. In the absence, disability, or disqualification of the President, the Vice President acts in his/her place; if neither person is present, any member shall be designated by a plurality of those present to preside.

The Moonachie Board of Education recognizes the value of public comment on educational issues and the importance of allowing members of the public to express themselves on school matters of community interest.
In order to permit the fair, and orderly expression of such comment, the Board provides a period for public comment at every regularly scheduled meeting of the Board.
Public participation is extended to residents of this district, persons having a legitimate interest in the actions of this Board, persons representing groups in the community or school district, representatives of firms eligible to bid on materials or services solicited by the Board, and employees and pupils of this district.
In accordance with N.J.S.A. 18A:12-24.1 every Board member abides by the following Code of Ethics. The Board member will:
1. Uphold and enforce all laws, rules and regulations of the State Board of Education and court orders pertaining to schools. Desired changes shall be brought about only through legal and ethical procedures.
2. Make decisions in terms of the educational welfare of children and seek to develop and maintain the public school that meets the individual needs of all children regardless of their ability, race, creed, sex, or social standing.
3. Confine his/her Board action to policy making, planning and appraisal, and help to frame policies and plans only after the Board has consulted those who will be affected by them.
4. Carry out his/her responsibility not to administer the school, but together with fellow Board members, insure it is well run.
5. Recognize that authority rests with the Board of Education and make no personal promises nor take any private action that may compromise the Board.
6. Refuse to surrender his/her independent judgment to special interest or partisan political groups or to use the school for personal gain or for the gain of friends.
7. Hold confidential all matters pertaining to the school, which, if disclosed, would needlessly injure individuals, or the school. In all other matters, he/she will provide accurate information and, in concert with fellow Board members, interpret to the staff the aspirations of the community for its school.
8. Vote to appoint the best-qualified personnel available after consideration of the recommendation of the chief administrative officer.
9. Support and protect school personnel in proper performance of their duties.
10.Refer all complaints to the chief administrative officer and act on the complaints
at public meetings only after failure of an administrative solution.
The Moonachie Board of Education has authorized the creation of the following committees of Board members charged to conduct studies, make recommendations to the Board, and act in an advisory capacity:

The Moonachie Board of Education is committed to the belief that every part of the school system in this district should be accountable to the public and that performance evaluation is essential to that accountability. The Board further believes that the improvement and growth of any institution depends upon an honest appraisal of its strengths and weaknesses. The Moonachie Board of Education is confident that the coming year will be filled with rich and rewarding experiences that will reinforce the ideals and beliefs that each of us has about the importance of being involved in the education of children.
