Westward Ho!

We have been working very hard learning about
the pioneers and their travels to the west. We created a journal with our ideas and thoughts about their journey. Enjoy some of our entries.

Would you like to ride in a covered wagon? Well I'velearned many interesting facts about covered wagons. Oxen pulled the covered wagon. The top of the wagon is made out of cloth. Pioneers used oil to make the cloth waterproof. The wagon is made out of wood. The covered wagon protected the pioneers while they were traveling.

If you were to travel on a wagon train what would you bring? First I would bring a gun because I would have to hunt for food and protectmyself. Then I would bring nice warm clothes because it might turn winter. Next I would bring two wooden wheels in case the wheels brake you would need extra wheels. I would also bring pots to cook our food. The pots can't have a hole because our food will go through. Last I would bring tools so if something brakes I would be able to fix it. These are the things you would use to fix a wagon an axe, a hammer, and a pick.

Have you ever thought what it would be like to live like a pioneer?
I would like being a pioneer because you could ride a horse and make new friends on thewagon train. I would also get to see new olaces. I would get to make my own food.
Being a pioneer might be fun, but I'd rather live today. Pioneers didn't have TV and that's my favorite thing to do. Pioneers would not have Webkinz but we do. They didn'thave cars so had to walk really far. They did not have stores with great things for kids.

Have you ever thought what it would be like to live like a pioneer? I would like to live like a pioneer because I like campfire songs and I like to ride horses. I like the wooden toys they had to play with because you could make them dance. I like the washboards they had because you could play them like a guitar. I would like to grow food like fruit and vegetables.
Being a pioneer might be fun, but I would rather live today because now we have Ipods and video games. I like TV so I could watch my favorite shows. We can get food from the store but the pioneers had to grow and make their own. Now we have cars but the pioneers only had covered w.agons

ThenI would bring a pot because if we don't have apot to cook the meat then the meat will get dry. Next I wouldbring wooden wheels because if the wheels got squishe I would have other wheels. I would also bring a gun so that if the indians shot arrows at the covered wagon we could shoot back. Last I would bring a quilt so if the sleeping bags flew out of the wagon maybe we could use a quilt instead.

I think I would like being a pioneer because I could hunt and shoot a gun. I could stab cows and then eat them. I could even cook a whole pig.
Being a pioneer might be fun, but I'd rather live today. They didn't have computers. They didn't have fire drills because fire drills run on electricity and they didn't have electricity. They had to make their own wooden wheels. They had to ambush animals for food and we can go to the store.
