November
This month the children will be exploring the curriculum unit "My Five Senses". They will explore the sense of sight with a review of colors and will discuss the things we see in the fall. Throughout the month special projects and books will help them to explore the senses of hearing, touching, tasting, and smelling too. The children will learn to label the body parts that hear, smell, taste, touch, and see on a fall scarecrow and we will build a large fall scarecrow as a class too!
This month the children will learn the letters O, X, and T. We will continue to make posters of the letter of the week as well as take turns bringing in alphabet show and tell. The children will practice writing the letters as well as identifying things that begin with each letter.
This month we have two special activity days to look forward to. We will be having a Five Senses Fair in school. This will take place during the school day and the children will have the chance to try 5 fun activity centers related to the five senses.
In November we will also be celebrating Thanksgiving. After learning about turkeys, Thanksgiving smells, sights, tastes, and sounds, and the history of Thanksgiving, we will reenact the first Thanksgiving at a Thanksgiving feast. Miss Salamone's class will join us as the students pose as the Native Americans, and the teachers as the Pilgrims. The children will try foods traditional to the holiday including chicken nuggets, applesauce, pumpkin pie, and stuffing, as well as some other healthy treats.
I am excited to report that Miss Furlong's At Home Reading Program has been a success! So far a good handful of students have returned completed bookmarks and have earned their reading prizes.
Congratulations to the Pre-K students and their families for their reading efforts! Keep up the good work!
